Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After upgrade to Karmic, when the laptop is powered (connected to AC) and set to "blank screen" when laptop lid is closed, if laptop lid is closed for a long time (a couple of hours or more) then when I open the screen again the computer is frozen - the screen does not turn back on, not even if I try to switch to a different VT and nothing I do except power cycle the computer can bring it back.

I have tried CTRL-ALT-DEL (with and without DontZap enabled). I have not tried SysReq.

I do not have screensaver enabled, so I don't know if this is related to the screensaver, but I suspect that it doesn't. I will try to enable the screensaver though to test.

This may or may not be related to bug #359392, see comments 609 and later.

I'm using the latest intel drivers (2.7.99), Xorg (7.4) and kernel (2.6.30-9) from Karmic.

I don't think it is - I don't have any problem with the screensaver (which I enabled to test and got back after several hours and everything came back).

Hi oded-geek,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I reported this bug upstream already

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22383 and is fixed upstream.

and the is in the xserver-xorg-video-intel package version 2:2.7.99.901+git20090624.f0270bbb-0ubuntu0sarvatt from xorg-edgers, which I have been using in jaunty,
 Then I upgraded to karmic.

Now for karmic we need to upgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel to this version

Drop in replacement driver debs for testing that contain the fixes are available in the x-updates PPA.

Specifically here, where you can just get the xserver-xorg-video-intel .deb for your architecture. (not the -dbg one!)

https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/+sourcepub/660369/+listing-archive-extra

They are also available in xorg-edgers, but you have to upgrade everything in the PPA to use them.

Attached the lspci output. I don't think I am experiencing the "infinite loop" bug, as I could not find the report error message in the Xserver log files. I did not see any error messages in the log files, for that matter.

I will try the x-updates drivers later. I do want to also note that yesterday I closed the lid for the night, and it didn't freeze as it had done every single time in the past. I will try to reproduce the freeze again before installing the driver updates.

I cannot reproduce the freezes in karmic and I am not using any packages
from the PPA.

I think that the freeze said in the freedeskop bug is introduced with more
latest versions of the packages in the X stack. and the freeze in this bug
is a separate issue fixed by some other updates.

I just now got this package from karmic updates. Now I will test with the
package from PPA. which should fix this.

Unfortunately, the last driver also introduces other much more serious problems for me. This is just a warning for people that might read this ticket and think the x-swat driver will solve their problems.
