Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

This seems to be a new regression in the last few days of Karmic:

I have a thinkpad X61s with an intel driver. X basically works, but after a while, I think tied to the screensaver or inactivity, it hangs with the screen blank and powered off. I could ping the machine and see it's disk and network lights flashing so I think it was still alive, just unable to switch the screen on. Until this morning I didn't have an SSH server there so I couldn't get in that way. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 didn't help.

Running 'xset dpms force off' blanks the screen but pressing a key does bring it back correctly.

Leaving the machine idle long enough for the gnome power-off timeout to pass didn't produce a problem. In fact, the screen was black but the backlight was still on.

However, just as I was typing here, within a few seconds of a keypress, the screen flashed black and then came back.

It does seem possible. I'll try to ssh in if it recurs.

It didn't recur yesterday so I'll assume it is the same bug.
