I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 as well and I can confirm the bug. Changing the default setting to "Both shift keys together" works instead.

1: yes
2: add another language for keyboard : Canada/Canada, then use the default key to switch Both Alt and nothing happened.
I've tested with 9.10 beta and it is still there

An observation I just did, maybe it helps.

My system has two layouts: USA and USA colemak. When I select two shortcuts, it works:

- both alt-keys (default) switches from "USA colemak" to "USA"
- alt-space switches from "USA" to "USA colemak"

An annoyance is that alt-space selects the window menu. I am still looking for another combination.

Both shift keys switches between my two layouts. Bug is unsolved, I am satisfied for now.

there are many bugs about a not working right alt key. and there are many bugs about a not working shortcut to change keyboard layout (left alt + right alt). as far as i can tell fixing the right alt key would also fix the keyboard layout problem.

could someone with more knowledge than me in the topic please look at these bugs and generously mark as duplicate.

The Keyboard Layout Key change doesn't work PROPERLY.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. The default Alt+Alt keys to change the keyboard layout acts very strange. It is very odd, when these keys are hit both at the same time it usually changes the keyboard layout from the secondary to primary but not from the main one to the second keyboard layout. So on must always use the mouse to change the keyboard layout to the main one. I don't know what causes this problem. but it is really annoying.
