Bug Description

unity 3.6.6-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu Natty

1. Open the Dash.
2. Type some text.
3. Press Shift+Left to select some of the text.
4. Press Ctrl+C.

What happens: The text you typed is replaced with a placeholder glyph containing the numbers "0 0 0 3".

What should happen: The text should be copied, as it would be in a native text field.

The currently active bug about Ctrl-X is bug #737731. Ctrl-A is fixed.

Moreover, Ctrl-(anything other than A) inserts a special character (00xx in a square as rendered by default font). Ctrl-I inserts what looks like a tab, Ctrl-H seems to insert nothing (but the search starts), Ctrl-M inserts something like a space.

So...does anyone have any idea when this will be fixed? This is a pretty significant usability bug for Unity, as you can no longer paste commands to run from instructions on the Internet, or copy and paste a file name to, say, edit text file by running "gedit /home/username/x/whatever/file.conf". Anything too complicated to easily type by hand now has to be run in a terminal, or done via slower GUI methods (launch Nautilus, navigate to the file, right-click, open with..., scroll through list, select application, click on ok...vs copy, paste, enter...man, people who insist on using a GUI for everything must really enjoy manual labor!) What with this being Unity's big debut and all hype/controversy surrounding it, I'm surprised a flaw as glaring and annoying as this wasn't fixed before Natty's release...

My original bug report was that it shows random non-printable characters when you hit Ctrl-Anything in the box. It looks bad...

Yes, but many bugs about Copy&Paste actions was marked as duplicates of this bug. So it is better to fix all issues before close this bug, imho.
