Comment 5 for bug 253439

Since encountering the problem with update-manager I have indeed installed and removed applications. Removed a firewall and installed Java. No problems encountered with either of those. I do have considerable programming experience but it's all with Windows. My experience with Linux is limited and I've never written a line of code for it. If you need additional information concerning this issue I can gather it for you and send it to you.

Update manager will start normally but when I click on the "Install Updates" button I get the normal response of "Starting Administrator" but no login box appears. From that point on the Update Manager is frozen. This seems to happen only if another program has been started before running the Update Manager. If I reboot and immediately start Update Manager from the menu everything works fine. It seems to hang when starting from the updates are available icon. At this time this is an annoyance.
