I have had no problems running the add/remove software application which is about the only other application I have had occasion to run that requires admin rights. The problem seems to only occur when I click on the updates are available icon. I'm not sure if there is a difference in how this icon starts the update manager or not. I have two machines (Dell laptop and a Dell desktop) that both exibit the same error. I also have a Cloudbook that is running an older version of GOS that has not seen this issue either so it appears to be associated with the new release.

Update manager will start normally but when I click on the "Install Updates" button I get the normal response of "Starting Administrator" but no login box appears. From that point on the Update Manager is frozen. This seems to happen only if another program has been started before running the Update Manager. If I reboot and immediately start Update Manager from the menu everything works fine. It seems to hang when starting from the updates are available icon. At this time this is an annoyance.
