I just noticed that Bug 408158 filed against Thunderbird also requests eds support. I don't think this bug (against Calendar) is a duplicate.
Read-only calendar support is possible through a work-around:
Add a Remote Calendar using the URI: file:///home/[username]/.evolution/[path_to_ics_file]
For example: 'file:///home/mjohansson/.evolution/exchange/mjohansson@spam+domain.com/personal/subfolders/Calendar/subfolders/My Calendar/cache.ics'
'file:///home/mjohansson/.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics'
I've only attempted either of these in read-only mode (which can only be set in the properties after creating the remote calendar).
