Bug Description

In Xubuntu-jaunty i wanted to configure a fixed ip address with network manager because i need to connect to
a virtual local lampp server on virtualbox.
I dont want to remove network-manager because i work with a umts stick and this worked out of the box.
In order to create the fixed network address on eth0 i disconnected from my umts connections and entered the necesssary information in the wired connections tab.
There was no result and ifconfig didnt show any of the configured ip addresses at eth0. While pinging for my local server (it should be in the same 192.168.2.0 network where my machine is in it told me the "network is unreachable"
THe network manager is a pain in itself. It is the most flaky tool in Xubuntu and i have spent hours to configure it.
It is the complete opposite of the ubunut promise to "just work"
It even caused me to go away from xubuntu.

Versions used:
Xubuntu Jaunty 9.04 with latest updates.
Virtualbox 2.2.4
