xserver-xorg-video-tdfx must depend of libglide3 to get 3d aceleration in 3dfx cards

I can confirm this bug. Ran into the same problem with Ubuntu 5.10 on a machine with a Voodoo 3. Problem was indeed solved by looking up and installing libglide3 in Synaptic.

Maybe a change somewhere to include libglide3 if a Voodoo 3,4,5 is present in the system?

with libglide3 isntalled, direct rendering should work
i have a voodoo4 but i get indirect render. LIBGL_debug=verbose says

libGL error:
can't find Glide library, dlopen(libglide3-v5.so) and dlopen(libglide3.so) both failed.
libGL error:
dlerror() message: /usr/lib/libglide3.so: undefined symbol: __LINE__

1: download glide from glide sourceforge proyect directly

2: replace the libglide3.so files installed by the libglide package

3: direct rendering is enabled

LIBGLIDE PACKAGE USES WRONG FILES
the package has to change this two bad files:

i supose this bug affect to more distributions

ahora en español:
el paquete libglide3 trae unas librerías que no funcionan bien.
descarga el fichero glide3x-3_10_00_30303-lib-linux.tgz de sourceforge
descomprímelo y borra las librerías de glide que instaló synaptic, sustituyéndolas por las de glide3x-3_10_00_30303-lib-linux.tgz y ya está

Ok, let's monitor how Debian solves this.

The bug affects xserver-xorg-video-tdfx not mesa

Gutsy tribe 4 not found because this error (3D desktop effects are on by default in Gutsy)

The dri driver is in mesa. Seems like debian will not add a stricted dependancy for it though.

libgl1-mesa-dri Suggests libglide3, and will not depend on it, so marking as won't fix.

if you have a 3dfx card (you use xserver-xorg-video-tdfx) and you don't install libglide3 you don't have 3d acceleration, and the final users don't know this.
