Here are three valgrind logs I've produced, but none of which captured the crash (I haven't seen it in ages). I stopped gvfsd-trash from starting automatically, and manually ran it with valgrind once the session had started. If there is some way of obtaining better logs, let me know.

those logs have no error, why did you change the bug to triaged?
getting a log of the error is not trivial, I've renamed gvfsd-trash to gvfsd-trash-binary and wrote and small gvfsd-trash wrapper which calls the real binary under valgrind, the log have some jump errors sometime but those lack the first two symbols as the stacktrace on this bug do, which is weird because libgioremote-
The report was incomplete since it was lacking a valgrind log, so I triaged it since that's what I provided. I didn't realise they didn't capture the error; setting back to Incomplete.

The action is to login, so you need to run valgrind on startup. I haven't had any success myself, but I'm guessing that it has something to do with modifying /usr/share/

Thanks for your valgrind.log Ken. I've talked with afflux in #ubuntu-bugs about your log, and he had this to say:
You'll definitely need libc6-dbgsym libglib2.0-0-dbgsym and gvfs-dbgsym, maybe gvfs-backends-
So if you install all those and get another log, you should have everything covered. Thanks again for your help!
Ken Foskey (foskey) wrote : | #65 |
Now waiting for an actual crash. It happens so randomly with me it may be a while. If you want to help here are the steps I have taken so far:
Added to /etc/apt/
deb http://
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libc6-dbgsym libglib2.0-0-dbgsym gvfs-dbgsym gvfs-backends-
then create script as per:
#!/bin/sh
G_SLICE=

@Vadim: Move /usr/lib/
I did everything Ken described and got a valgrind.log with a SIGSEGV, hope this one helps.
Looks like a good log to me, marking triaged. Thanks for your work on that Steffen.

Ubuntu 8.10 x86 LiveCD Alpha-4 release (kernel 2.6.26.5-generic)
As a non-expert user I just had difficulty finding a PC that would actually load this LiveCD session and it then wouldn't allow 'at' key entry for logging in to make this report (I had to use Ctrl_V of a text file created on another working PC to do that)
The Alpha-4 x86 LiveCD wouldn't even load on an E2160 or on an E4600 based PC.
Fortunately, I had someone's old 2.8GHz Northwood PC that I could try and it promptly generated this error report.
Meanwhile, keep up the good work folks !
Andrew Conkling (andrewski) wrote : | #70 |
Bruce, please file a new bug on that; this report is for a specific issue
related to gvfsd-trash.
Bruce R (bm007a0030) wrote : | #71 |
Hi Andrew
As it happens my Alpha-4 loading problem was a Ubuntu 8.04 Brasero corrupted CD problem, which I'll follow up separately in slower time. A WinXP/Nero7 re-burnt Alpha-4 CD now simply conforms to this thread, but I'll not waste your time with it.
Good luck with your highly focused endeavours !

Steve Langasek (vorlon) wrote : | #87 |
According to seb, this bug is a difficult to resolve problem resulting from use of dbus in a threaded environment, which may or may not be fixed upstream for GNOME 2.24. However, the greatest practical impact for users is the apport dialog itself, because this crash appears to only happen on gvfsd-trash shutdown, and gvfsd-trash is auto-respawned in the event of a crash. An apport bug pattern has been added to catch duplicates and I've updated the documentation for the Technical Overview, so I'm going ahead and dropping the milestone from this bug.

That's a good question. The "crash" comes up immediately after logging in for the first time after a reboot or cold start. I am new to the testing process as I was asked to participate about three weeks ago. I am on Alpha-5 8.10.

Firefox doesnt launch trash so i dont see how the 2 are related. I would
assume if you are right than its not the bug that everyone else is
seeing since most people get it on login it may take 30seconds to a
minute for apport to tell you so maybe you are paunching Firefox during
that time.

Hello John,
This text wasn't mine. Firefox wasn't involved.
I'm trying to let my computer to log in automaticly on my WLAN. At this
moment, I need to type my password every time I log in. So I was surfing
around in my preferences when I got the bug.
After the update of today, I didn't notice that bug again. Still I've
problems with my WLAN.

Robert Logger.

not sure if I should still submit this - but seeing as it happened when I ran Update Manager, I reckon it is important to fix. Anyhow I fired up Update Manager (had Rhythmbox going too) and then the error/crash window popped up - this on a freshly installed Intrepid with every update I can find. The updater completed it's checks and found nothing before I reported this.

gray: it may take some hours or days until an updated package is actually available on your system (maybe depending on the mirror server etc.). You can check the installed gvfs version with Synaptic or aptitude; as stated in the changelog above, the bug is fixed in gvfs 1.0.1-0ubuntu1 . And at least on my test system the update is not yet available; it is still at gvfs 1.0.0-0ubuntu1.

Ach nee.
Fazit: Konfiguriert bitte euren Spamcleaner korrekt. Oder schafft ihn
gleich ab.
Danke.

Sehr geehrter Absender!
b) Auf nachstehenden Link klicken

Vielen herzlichen Dank für die Unterstützung gegen die Spambekämpfung.
Nach der Authentifizierung wird auch Ihre bisherige(n) E-Mail(s) automatisch zugestellt.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
