Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Hi

Am using Firefox 3.0.11, Shiretoko and 3.5.1 (the latter from Linux Mint repositories)

The problem i am facing is that some of the webpages / websites appear incomplete or not at all - what loads up is only some colored lines a few icons and no text (except what may be in the form of an icon). Some other wesbsites like bbcnews appear properly but the websites that offer email services appear with just lines and icons and some tiny images and no text like gmail, yahoo, rediffmail etc.

So am unable to use Firefox because am not sure what websites will load properlt and which will not.

The below is the result of my "apt-cache" to know where the firefox was sourced from etc.

ram@ram-laptop:~$ apt-cache show firefox-3.5

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please try the version from the Ubuntu Jaunty updates?
If that doesn't work, could you please try this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to test.

Hi Micah,

Ok tried that , to add a new profile and use that,

that did not solve the problem

I tried to update to the latest in the repositories, even enabled the pre-released and unsupported the updates.

Tried uninstalling firefox completely - Complete Removal and then reinstalled only version 3.0.12

The result is the same - the pages still do not appear and they appear as i described earlier.

So am wondering if its a problem of of firefox on the particular kernal versions i am using
Linux ram-laptop 2.6.28-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 19:49:51 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Opera works fine

Tried installting seamonkey but the sometimes crashes ??

So any idea what next

Any luck with Firefox 3.5.2 or Firefox 3.0.13? Also, what video drivers are you using?

As you may have tracked on this list i have been having major headaches trying to setp the above device on 9.04. Initially there was a usbserial bug and then it simply does not work.

On 9.04 the problem has been two fold initially in the 2.6.28.11 kernal there was a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345002) to do with recognizing the cdma device and connecting it to the right /ttyUSB0 place, seemingly this has been resolved in kernal 2.6.28.13. But the said device 2288 still did / does not work - atleast not normally. The bug resolves the issue of the device being identified and being connected to /dev/ttyUSB0 by defualt, but It only works in this strange method outlined in the next para:-

first i need to boot up in 7.10 and run the device , after this i do a reboot and boot up into 9.04 and immediately startup the device - again using wvdial, and *strangely, if it connects on the first try the device works properly. If the connection gets broken then i get the error message

/ttyUSB0 input output error

**
it seems that the problem is that 9.04 does not load the right driver to the device, which someone told me is a dumb device and gets reset each time it gets attached to an OS.

So my question is how can i get 9.04 to load the right driver (without having to do the 7.10 and reboot thingaamajig)

Is there a way i can extract the correct...

Hi

What i wanted to write was that maybe this firefox bug should be closed, because its possible that there was a conflict in packages as they were drawn from difference sources. To explain further:

My fresh install was Ubuntu 9.04, after the fresh install i added packages from Linux Mint 7 Gloria and since then kept the respos for both Linux Mint gloria and Ubuntu 9.04.

because of the bug / or the issue with firefox and my dependence on firefox i decided to reinstall 9.04 and to use any Linux Mint packages - the result Firefox is back to normal no issues.

So am wondering if the people concerned would / could mark this bug as closed.

regards and thanks

Hi

Seems like the slow internet is not the only problem,

I am unable to post this comment, its the 5th time i am trying.

This bug is still a *big* problem,

It has reappeared in 9.10 and this time i have been careful about what all i install, I have added medibuntu repos and installed googleearth, skype, gstreamer (different types), audacity, vlc, mplayer, thunderbird, etc.

And this problem has surfaced again,

I have installed epiphany and that has the same problem , so am having to yet again use opera.

This firefox bug is making using Ubuntu a bit of a pain and am not sure if the bug is in Ubuntu or in Firefox because the problem is spread over different Ubuntu distros and different machines
1. Ubuntu Studio 8.10 - this too has a problem
2. Ubuntu 9.10 - this too has a problem

SO i request that this bug be relooked at. and a possible solution figured out.
