Communication with Translators

Bug Description

One thing we've found out in the Ubuntu Manual project is that it's very, very hard to communicate with translators if they don't subscribe to the mailing list.

We'd like to have fuzzy translations enabled for our project - but it would also be good to talk about having some form of dialog or notes on the side of the translations where we can add special instructions that pertain to our project.

Even just being able to edit the description up the top of the translation page could be useful.

I'd like to talk with some Launchpad folks about this at UDS, hence I've registered a blueprint:
https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/launchpad-translator-communication

As far as 'enabling fuzzy translations': we can't do it since it's not supported. Track http://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/rosetta/+spec/rosetta-fuzzy-merge to know when it does get implemented (or well, simply help out do it: LP is open-source and we love any help we get :).

As for this particular bug, it's basically a duplicate of bug #512133: make potemplate description more prominent on translation pages.

On the subject of communication with Ubuntu translators, the main point
of contact is the ubuntu-translators mailing list, where all team
coordinators are required to be subscribed. These team leads then take
care of forwarding any relevant communication to their local translation
mailing lists. But it's not only the team coordinators, many Ubuntu
translators are subscribed to the list.

So you can use that for announcements. For other purposes, e.g. if there
are bugs affecting a particular language, you can simply assign the bug
to the particular language team in Launchpad (they're all here:
https://translations.launchpad.net/+groups/ubuntu-translators) and all
members will be notified.
