gedit snippets plugin does not save edited default snippets

Binary package hint: gedit

The gedit snippets plugin stores all the default snippets at /usr/share/gedit-2/plugins/snippets and by default a user does not have write permission to that folder.
This results in unexpected behavior when editing the default snippets - once changed they should be implicitly saved, but when the program is restarted, they are back to the default.

The users custom snippets are stored at ~/.gnome2/gedit/snippets. To solve this bug it is possible to copy (or move) all the files in /usr/share/gedit-2/plugins/snippets to ~/.gnome2/gedit/snippets.

I assume this is an Ubuntu packaging bug, not sure though. Present in both Gutsy, and in Hardy with version 2.22.1-0ubuntu1

Confirmed by me. Please see the above link to the forum thread for our workaround of copying the contents of /usr/share/gedit-2/plugins/snippets, not sure if it needs a recursive copy to include the lang folder though.

In case anyone wants to backport the bugfix to Hardy: the patch can be seen at http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/gedit/trunk/plugins/snippets/snippets/Library.py?r1=6164&r2=6326&pathrev=6326 (it was pointed to by the upstream developer, and indeed fixes the problem).
