Hi,

I fixed the error you described on my box by purging all my nvidia-glx
packages and doing a "rm -f /usr/lib/tls/*".
So I think this bug describes what already is in
http://bugs.debian.org/246614

Perhaps you should try it out by removing the nvidia packages. If it
fixes your problem I suggest merging this bug with #246614.

Greetings, Bastian

nvidia drivers are at fault. Both shipped by Debian and Nvidia. Installing the

Whilst we are not shipping any nvidia package, this cannot prevent users from
installing them.

more notes: apparently there is no need to purge the debian packages. Removing
the /usr/lib/tls/libGL* is enough. Nvidia drivers will keep working and dl_open too.

When I remove libesd0 and start xmms I see this message:

libesd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

However, xmms starts and runs fine. EsoundD is absent from the list of
outplug plugins, as one would expect.

Hi,
the problem occorus only when NVIDIA drivers are installed.
Indipendently or not of which nvidia drivers you install (Debian packages
or from nvidia.com) something goes really bad.
rm /usr/lib/tls/libGL* that are part of any nvidia installation will fix
the problem.

I don't really think this is a xmms bug.

Hi...

FYI --- I have tracked down the cause of this bug (I think). It is an
interaction between the nvidia opengl library, glibc, and the 2.6 kernel. It
is NOT the fault of nvidia, instead it looks like a glibc bug, since I can
reproduce it in a much simpler test case not involving the nvidia drivers.

See my post to bug #219352 for details. You may wish to reassign this bug to
glibc.

Are you using the closed-source Nvidia drivers? Bugs #246601 and #219352
explain the issue, which isn't the fault of xmms. Let me know if this is
or isn't the case.
