Bug Description

Summary:
When headphones are plugged in no output can be heard through them, while the internal speakers still produce sound. This is a dual jack (both mic and headphones) and this was seen both with a mic/headphone combo and just regular headphones.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Install 10.10
2) Play sounds through Sound Preferences, notice internal speakers work
3) Plug in headphones, replay sounds
4) Note sound still comes from internal speakers, but not headphones

Expected result:
Sound can be output from headphones, internal speakers muted

Actual result:
Sound can't be output from headphones, internal speakers are not muted

Well I do not think it is properly fixed.
At least because the new kernel 2.6.37-6.15 does not work at all.
I cannot boot, it does not get loaded, it ends up in the busybox after a too long waiting period.
My system is a fully updated Natty 64-bit, Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P, AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, XFX GTX285.

All other kernels including all older 2.6.37 kernels do work OK.
I had to remove this 2.6.37-6.15 and I am using now 2.6.37-5.14.

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed' to 'verification-done'.

If verification is not done by one week from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

I tested the 2.6.35-24.42 kernel from maverick-proposed on a Thinkpad Edge 11. The 2.6.35-24.42 kernel enables the headphone jack.
