I'm running OOo 2.0.4~rc2-1ubuntu6 on amd64 (current edgy), and the fonts on the menu look weird (or at least, different) compared to the menus of Gnome applications.

I can confirm this on an Ubuntu Edgy install (all updates). However, this is not an issue on Kubuntu Edgy.

This is exactly the problem, bug #54776 is dealing with. OOo does not respect fontconfig-hinting-settings (fontconfig trouble was reported in bug #24004, partly OOo is using fontconfig for now). When using freetype 2.1.x it is always using bytecode-interpreter (see bug #22897), with freetype 2.2.x it is always using autohinter for hinting. It seems like there is additional a problem with cairo. Upstream is aware of this, see issues 59127 (cairo stuff) and 64508 (fontconfig-hinting).

I think this is more than "low" imprtance. OOo is a critical app, and LCD displays are commonplace now.

It was not a problem with Dapper, so it is a clear regression.

Big diferences are when you have enabled bytecode interpretr. All aplications have nice fonts (specially msttcorefonts), but openoffice have ugly. I add screenshot.

You can reproduce it, when install msttcorefonts and enable bytecode intepretr (in fonts /etc/fonts/fonts.conf or in /etc/fonts/fonf.d):

<match target="font">
<edit name="autohint" mode="assign"><bool>false</bool></edit>
</match>

P.S. I have clear instalation 6.10 on i386.
