My card doesn't work anymore too. I've just installed Official 10.04 LTS Desktop not beta or RC.
My 3Com card worked pretty fine in 9.10 but not in 10.04. Leds normally blinking do not even light up (or better, just a little in the dark of the card I can see two LED very lightly dimmed on.

I have had the same problem with the update to Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx). From 8.10 then to 9.04 then to 9.10 everything worked out of the box but suddenly no connection now with 3Com 3CRWE154G72 officeconnect pcmcia card. I got the 2 very faint lights on but no activity and no recognition that the wireless interface existed. There are 2 packages missing that need installing, at least for me.

I did:

sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree

this allowed the card to be seen by the OS and the p54pci driver to be installed. At this point the faint lights go out indicating positive control over the interface. But if you try to connect at this point you will get the lights flashing but no connection is established. then I did:

sudo apt-get install wireless-tools

now iwconfig works and you can use network manager to configure the interface and it connects OK. So a solution but still does not work out of the box as it used to so I guess some work needs to be done on the instalation.

Needless to say, you need to connect using a wired ethernet interface to get the above packages and install them. And one more thing, I did a full upgrade when the cable connection was available before getting the packages above.

While the above packages did provide me with a stable WiFi connection, I noticed that hotplug was not being supported and if the PCMCIA card was not present at startup or was ejected during a session and then re-inserted it would not be recognised and the interface was lost. So hotplug was not being supported. I did:

sudo apt-get install linux-wlan-ng

and restarted the system. Now I have hotplug on the PCMCIA card too.

Just to clarify the hotplug position after the last package was installed, I now have:

1) On reboot/restart: if the card is not present but is inserted after the system is up, I need to remove the card and insert it again, then the card is picked up and the connection established automatically.

2) Once a connection is established: if I remove the card during the connection, the connection is not established once the card is installed, it needs to be removed and inserted again, then the connection is re-established.

I have the same 3com card and tried installing

sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree

but now I seem to be having random lockups especially when deluge is running and there is a lot of traffic.

I now have an internal broadcom card that isn't working well, slow, timeouts. Same with a pcmcia Atheros chipset card and lockups with the 3com card...

I hope wireless get fixed thourougly soon.

I have a 3Com OfficeConnect CRWE154G72 version 1 fully working with the provisos above. After upgrading the system and installing the 3 packages mentioned above and restarting between each action. There is a big difference between version 1 and version 2 of these cards.

Just updated today and wireless stopped working. In addition connecting with wireless trough my wireless router is as slow as to be unusable (ie. I can't install packages trough it because "something wicked happened resolving "fi.archive.ubuntu.com"). If I remember correctly the same thing has happened with all two release upgrades I've done this machine. The only way to get a working network connection is to connect directly to the internet wire to fix things. Can you please do something about this before the next release!

Can you run "apport-collect 559875" in a terminal? After that, can you test the latest mainline build kernel to see if the issue exists upstream? You can find how to do that here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds
