Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug without some more information. Please run the following command in a terminal:

apport-collect 534519

I noticed that you used apport to report this bug, but that was before it was marked as affecting Firefox. If you run apport again, then it will get more specific information for us. Thanks in advance!

@Sam

It looks like no new information got added when you ran apport. Can you please let us know if something happened when you tried to run "apport-collect 534519"?

I'm unsure (without more info) if Firefox is to blame or if it should be a flash bug.
If apport collect doesn't give any helpful info please at least run the following commands:

apt-cache policy firefox flashplugin-installer flashplugin-nonfree
lsb_release -a
uname -a

Also please list ALL extensions and with each one tell us if it is in use or not

I saw a bug similar if not the same as this bug however i don't recall the bug #

I think I am getting this bug. I think it has to do with the NoScript extension for Firefox. I can reliably duplicate it on some sites with video, but not others. This one causes the problem every time:

http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=Xd6UuzSUaG

If you have NoScript installed, you will see a box where the flash video would be. There are two ways to get the video to play. If you click on the box, it will let just the video play. Or you can choose to allow scripts for the page. When I choose to allow scripts, the video plays normally and everything is OK. When I play the video by clicking the box, I get the video with no sound. If I let it play for more than 5 seconds, the video will lock up (most of the time), and closing that tab in Firefox causes the whole application to lock up. Firefox will lock up regardless of whether or not the flash video locks up.

Clicking the video to get it to play works fine on my machine that has Ubuntu 9.04, and the latest version of NoScript. I'm not sure what version of firefox it is, but it is whatever is the latest in the Ubuntu 9.04 repositories (I just took whatever was default on the operating system, and update it every time there is an update). I have all the same plugins and extensions (I think with the same versions) on my 9.04 machine as listed below.

The version of Firefox I am using on my 10.04 machine (that has the problem) is:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100423 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.3

These are the extensions that I have installed:
AdBlock 1.2
CsLite 1.4
NoScript 1.9.9.74
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 (I think this one is default, because I didn't install it)

Here are the plugins I have installed:
(these are the default plugins)
VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.30.0)
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem)
DivX Web Player version 1.4.0.233
QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.6
iTunes Application Detector

(these are the ones I added)
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_20
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45

Can someone test this with a new profile to see if this is in fact due to an extension? You do not need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic one (which may be NoScript from the sound of things).

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

Freezes never happened to me when NoScript is disabled. But I do not understand how a Firefox extension can make the whole system (!) freeze. Not even the SYSRQ keys work.

NoScript has been found to cause X to crash for some people with ATI graphics drivers (bug 539772), but it might not be the same if X is only freezing for you.

Firefox shows plug-in version 9.0 r115

upgraded the flash player using the download from adobe.

sudo dpkg -i install_flash_player_10_linux.deb

Firefox keeps showing plug-in as version 9.0 r115 but the problem seems solved !
