I think I am getting this bug. I think it has to do with the NoScript extension for Firefox. I can reliably duplicate it on some sites with video, but not others. This one causes the problem every time:

If you have NoScript installed, you will see a box where the flash video would be. There are two ways to get the video to play. If you click on the box, it will let just the video play. Or you can choose to allow scripts for the page. When I choose to allow scripts, the video plays normally and everything is OK. When I play the video by clicking the box, I get the video with no sound. If I let it play for more than 5 seconds, the video will lock up (most of the time), and closing that tab in Firefox causes the whole application to lock up. Firefox will lock up regardless of whether or not the flash video locks up.

Clicking the video to get it to play works fine on my machine that has Ubuntu 9.04, and the latest version of NoScript. I'm not sure what version of firefox it is, but it is whatever is the latest in the Ubuntu 9.04 repositories (I just took whatever was default on the operating system, and update it every time there is an update). I have all the same plugins and extensions (I think with the same versions) on my 9.04 machine as listed below.

The version of Firefox I am using on my 10.04 machine (that has the problem) is:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100423 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.3

These are the extensions that I have installed:
AdBlock 1.2
CsLite 1.4
NoScript 1.9.9.74
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 (I think this one is default, because I didn't install it)

Here are the plugins I have installed:
(these are the default plugins)
VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 2.30.0)
Windows Media Player Plug-in 10 (compatible; Totem)
DivX Web Player version 1.4.0.233
QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.6
iTunes Application Detector

(these are the ones I added)
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_20
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45
