Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-cg-toolkit

The package installs and is marked as successful - but it does not actually install and fails during the download of the toolkit from Nvidia with a 403 Forbidden error. This has happened on several machines on different networks and even though all affected machines can download all other packages fine. When I look on the Nvidia website (http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cg_toolkit.html), the 2.1 version is no longer available - but the 2.2 is. Thus the error.

This failure is not preventing the package from becoming marked as installed however, and is leading to erroneous installs of other packages that assume it has been installed, afterwards. One such is Panda3D.

Which package version are you using? The package installs fine on Lucid Lynx 10.04 for me using

http://developer.download.nvidia.com/cg/Cg_2.1/2.1.0017/Cg-2.1_February2009_x86.tgz

package 2.1.0017.deb1+nmu1
There is a debian bug about updaiting the package for Cg 2.2:

If there is ongoing difficulties for downloading from nvidia.com,
I'd suggest reporting it to the Cg forums:
http://developer.nvidia.com/forums/index.php?showforum=14

Seems to me that the package ought to fail to install rather than
behave as if everything is fine.

Updating the package for Cg 2.2 is highly recommended.

The current release of Cg is 3.0.0007
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cg_download.html

With 3.0.0007 we added 32-bit and 64-bit .deb packages.
Cg 3.0 is compatible with applications developed against Cg 2.1 and Cg 2.2.

Launchpad bug auto-closing is currently broken. This bug was fixed in the following upload:

nvidia-cg-toolkit (3.0.0007-0ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
    Closes: #506494, #539418. LP: #365229.
  * Use upstream's tarballs as source instead of downloading during postinst,
    as redistribution is now permitted. The package is now non-free.
    Closes: #502457. LP: #284750, #524740, #254084.
  * Switch to source format 3.0 (quilt) to use multiple upstream tarballs.
    Add get-orig-source to fetch tarballs.
  * Use minimal dh rules.
  * Bump standards version to 3.9.1 (no changes needed).
  * Added (simple) watch file.
