Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-cg-toolkit

There is an error in nvidia-cg-toolkit, in Ubuntu 8.10 (and Debian)

symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libCg.so: undefined symbol: __cxa_guard_acquire

The main consecuence is: imposible to use OpenGL in Mono, (TAO Framework), in Ubuntu Intreppid, Debian Lenny,...

This was a bug in Nvidia-built libCgGL.so binaries in versions
Cg-2.0_May2008 (2.0.0015), Cg-2.1_August2008 (2.1.0009),
and Cg-2.1_October2008 (2.1.0012).

It should not be an issue in the current release versions of Cg
2.1, 2.2 or 3.0. A subsequent release of Cg 2.0 is unlikely ---
the advice from Nvidia as of July 2010 is to migrate to Cg 2.2 or 3.0.

I recommend that this bug be closed as obsolete.

It's only a Debian or Ubuntu bug in the sense that more recent
releases of Cg ought to be used than those affected by this bug.
(Intrepid and Januty use 2.0.0015)

Each new release is backwards compatible.

Cg now provides x86 and amd64 .deb packages, beginning with Cg 3.0 (July 2010)
The current release supersedes all previous releases and is fully backwards compatible.

It is recommended that Ubuntu incorporate or adapt these as a replacement.

Launchpad bug auto-closing is currently broken. This bug was fixed in the following upload:

nvidia-cg-toolkit (3.0.0007-0ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
    Closes: #506494, #539418. LP: #365229.
  * Use upstream's tarballs as source instead of downloading during postinst,
    as redistribution is now permitted. The package is now non-free.
    Closes: #502457. LP: #284750, #524740, #254084.
  * Switch to source format 3.0 (quilt) to use multiple upstream tarballs.
    Add get-orig-source to fetch tarballs.
  * Use minimal dh rules.
  * Bump standards version to 3.9.1 (no changes needed).
  * Added (simple) watch file.
