Bug Description

Binary package hint: moodbar

moodbar | 0.1.2-2ubuntu1 | jaunty/universe | source, amd64, i386

Doesn't work with Amarok 2 (which we now have) and it looks dead upstream. Please remove.

this package only recommends amarok, and appears to also provide a gstreamer plugin; perhaps it should be kept for that reason?

True, but it's intent is for Amarok primarily (it's distributed via the
Amarok web site).

There is a moodbar plasmoid that is meant to replace this that will get
packaged once it's mature.

I think this one should go, but we could just drop the recommends if you'd
prefer.

please confirm whether it works.
i use exaile on ubuntu instead of amarok, if moodbar works with exaile, it should be kept.

i am attaching the moodbar plugin for exaile.

This is ridiculous. Moodbar can be used for more than just Amarok. Plus most people are using Amarok 1.4 from PPA because Amarok 2 is so terrible.
Moodbar is a very important feature for DJ's and a very important piece of software which should not be just removed because "Steve and Scott" want it removed. The code was still valid on it's own without Amarok.
Please undo your vandalism of Ubuntu and reinsert the moodbar package.

If they are using Amarok 1.4 from a PPA, then that sounds like a good place

Please undo the damage you did to Ubuntu, Exaile and Amarok14 by restoring the moodbar to the Ubuntu Jaunty repository.
As you broke it, please fix it.

This still needs to be put back for Exaile, and DJ use. You don't remove a package until an valid alternative is available.

The package depended on Amarok 1.4. If someone wants to propose a version
that doesn't require Amarok 1.4, then there is a process to get packages
added to Ubuntu that anyone is free to follow.

It is not appropriate to release with broken, uninstallable packages and so
removal was appropriate.

====================================

Please notice the DATE ===3 may 2007=== on the change-log entry.
This date is before the existence or knowledge of the Exaile plugin.
So the package is removed on invalid grounds.

=== Quote from LaunchPad ===
#
Exaile
Exaile is a media player aiming to be similar to KDE's Amarok, but for GTK+.
It includes many Amarok features: fetching of album covers, handling of large libraries, fetching of lyrics, and more.
Registered by Exaile Developers on 2007-07-26
=============================

Exaile did not even exisit at the time of Bryan Donlan's Reccommend
So the comment from Bryan 'for now' (3 may 2007) still stands!

The package still exisits in Debian and is maintained in their packaging. So there were no grounds for removal.

Just dropping the recommends [for Amarok] was the appropriate action.

OK, so removal was wrong because sometime later an exaile plugin got added? Please understand that we can only deal with events in the order that they happen.

Does the version of the package in Debian now support exaile?

Hi Scott,

> Does the version of the package in Debian now support exaile?

Actually it's the other way around (the plugin in Exaile uses moodbar), but yes, they do work together. Note that I have no idea whether there's a version of the plugin for the Exaile version in Ubuntu, but the plugin is in upstream's trunk and is likely to be included in future versions.

(P.S. Closing the bug in Exaile because it clearly doesn't belong there, see also bug 388915 comment 9.)
