Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I find it pretty confusing that the context menu of (removable or non-removable) media is so short, as compared to what you get when right-clicking the same drive after a click on the 'Computer' toolbar icon.

Especially from removable media (USB-Sticks, SD-Cards...) I want to right-click the places bar to select "Properties", in order to learn about the remaining disk space on the drive, which is very useful when drag-dropping files and folders into a drive listed in the places side bar.

Of course, I don't want to navigate away from my current folder (because I might have files selected, or the view scrolled down by a specific amount...), neither would I want to open a new window (from the side-bar list's drive's context menu), then right-click into this new window again and select 'Properties' from there...

For me, this is mostly about disk-space, but I'm sure there is a lot more cases when people would need a not-so-crippled context menu in the places list.

disk space information is available just fine for me. Are you on hardy?

Yes, I am on hardy.

How is it available to you?
And why, do you (personally, from your own usage experience) think, should the context menu in "Computer" and the "Places" side bar not be the same?

Okay. So first, there is the context menu for a device as shown in nautilus' "Computer" view.

In the second screenshot, you can see the (totally incomplete, imho) context menu for the same device in the "Places" side bar. Especially the "Properties" ("Eigenschaften") menu item is missing.

The other bug is only regarding the side bar tree view, while this bug is about the places side bar places view.

Those are not the same context menus!

Therefore, I don't regard this a duplicate of Bug #19598.

To see what I mean, open a nautilus window, chose the places view to be shown in the sidebar and right-click one of your devices in the sidebar.
Then, chose the tree view in the side bar and repeat the above. You will see two totally different context menus. Once #19598 is fixed, #230098 still is not.

could you open a bug on bugzilla.gnome.org then? that's an upstream issue and the ubuntu team doesn't have the ressources to work on such changes right now

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

This is not a small/easy fix... This need to be done upstream. Not a papercut

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.
