@Colin, that makes sense. When this bug was first created it wasn't clear that it only affected users who installed to a partition other than their main windows one. This has since been confirmed (or at least no exception to this has been identified).

This bug probably was also helpful in that it described what people were seeing - even if it's a combination of the 581760 and 604417 they probably wouldn't help a user recognize that that's what had happened to them. After all, I believe the lupin grub wrapper is mostly a hidden override and many users didn't even make a connection between installing grub-pc to /dev/sdx and the resulting error.

As I said above, I think the grub-pc prompt could be completely bypassed for wubi users as it serves no purpose.
