Solution if you are desperate to get Windows working again and don't care so much about Ubuntu:
I also suffered from this bug. I run Wubi and windows7 on my Asus UL30V laptop:
- upgrade Ubuntu yesterday to latest (don't remember version :-)
- at boot I get # No such device <strange serie of letters> and grub rescue
I then downloaded the wubildr and changed it for C: (and other locations where I found it!)
- Same fault.

I then started with a linux live-CD and downloaded ms-sys (used to fix windows MBR) as described in this link: www.arsgeek. com/2008/ 01/15/how- to-fix- your-windows- mbr-with- an-ubuntu- livecd/

Now Windows7 starts directly an Grub is lost.
Any proposal how to get Grub back and use Ubuntu? Maybe I should skip Wubi and make a normal Ubuntu install?
