I also use Wicd on basically all my Ubuntu PCs because Network Manager was a pain to deal with and wouldn't work properly with my wireless connections, also it was much easier to setup profiles for different places I work that use static IPs on wirelss/wired networks.
Anyway, with Wicd I'm not able to get Ubuntu One to connect. I get:
ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on org.freedesktop.NetworkManager:/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files
