Well, while I consider Ubuntu as a great operating system, it is clear it has not met the requirements of many people in this particular aspect. Nor it seems will ever do (too much time waiting already). While searching around I found a few tools which do provide what Ubuntu One should (or, I must say, even a better solution). All of you might now dropbox which is a well known service to store your stuff in the cloud and can be easily integrated in Ubuntu. But, there is another great tool called Wuala which, in my opinion, is even better as, among other things, the amount of data you get is related to the amount of data you share (+ a fix quantity that you get the first time you log in). There are versions for Ubuntu (or any Linux), Windows, Mac... or any browser. You don't have to move your stuff to a particular folder since you can trigger an automatic synchronization or a back-up from any directory. Well, go to their web page and explore it if you find it interesting.

By the way, if you click in either of the following links, you will start with 2GB
http://www.wuala.com/referral/CAJA4KJCF7GA7NB53PG6
http://www.wuala.com/referral/C66CJKHCK5GHG3PAPCMB

And, yes, true, either me or some friend will get an extra 512 MB (we don't really need it since we already have around 40 GB online space for free).

Note that I have nothing to do with Ubuntu, Dropbox or Wuala. Just sharing my experience.
