In my case if I start the app from menu, nothing happens. When starting from terminal with
ubuntuone-client-applet --signup

I have 3 different situations:
1. a new page is opened in Firefox, it jumps to https://ubuntuone.com/plans/, but I don't see any icon in tray
2. nothing happens, exits without error
3. crashes with segmentation fault
