I have same problem as Giovanni. My desktop computer at work is behind proxy. Ubuntu One Control applet is in sleeping mode and no try icon is shown. On my home computer Ubuntu One works fine.
The difference is that at work I'm behind proxy. So I think it that problem is associated with proxy problem.
