I can confirm this. I can also say that Usplash works with Nvidia, not perfect, but it works. I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy 64-bit here with a Nvidia 7600 GS graphics card. I tried the Ubuntu Desktop-CD. The boot process shows three different stages:

1) Usplash works right after booting the computer
