I updated my system completely, and I get usplash ONLY when shutting down, not when booting up. I don't get TTY's, nothing, just a blank screen when starting up.
Also, I'm confused why this won't be fixed in Gutsy, by not fixing it in Gutsy you'd be ending the eighteen month support cycle VERY early.
