Same for me, I still haven't found any way in Hardy to get the splash screen working properly again.

TTYs are working when I don't change the default setup which means no splash at all is shown. If I apply the workaround described above that worked in Gutsy, TTYs are still blank and still only the first stage of the splash screen is working.
