Hi daniele-smartango,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Daniele, try "apport-collect 532756" to submit the required information (after you've retried using the "nouveau" driver, so Xorg.0.log.old will contain the error).

Your Xorg.0.log indicates that you've got the binary nvidia drivers
installed. As only one driver can bind to the graphics card, installing
the nvidia binary drivers will disable nouveau.

Does nouveau work if you disable the restricted nvidia drivers in
System→Administration→Hardware Drivers and reboot?

I do not have system->Administration->Hardware driver in my menu, which
command I have to issue, also if nouveau conflict with nvidia it should
be stated somewhere ... I have to remove nvidia-current and all nvidia
packages ?

Could you please run the command:

apport-collect 532756

from a terminal while using the nouveau driver? That will attach all
sorts of useful debugging information to your report.

there is a bug in apport-collect (or in server side) that make the program crash with http 412
I cant.
Can I attach some other way to attach debug (manual procedure)?

I'm not entirely sure at this point what problem you are experiencing. I think your problem is that video playback is broken, is this correct?

Could you please remove the xorg crack pushers packages by installing the “ppa-purge” package and running “sudo ppa-purge ppa:xorg-edgers” and reboot?

If the problem persists, please run “apport-collect 532756” after trying to play video.

This is with DDX git up to commit 9b4118d, libdrm 2.6.18 with the 0.0.16 API bump reverted, and 2.6.33 drm + nouveau.

The user reports image corruption on the bottom of the desktop wallpaper, but only with a background image or gradient - not a flat colour. Image here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/danielecruciani/4417023969/

The user also reports that Xv produces nothing but scrambled colours. Screenshot here: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/40483459/Schermata-Awakenedvoice-DrupalCCKAndViewsTutorial767.mov.png

Thank you for that. I've forwarded this bug upstream. Could you please subscribe to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27076 as the Novueau developers may wish to get additional information from you.

As for Ubuntu, could you please try copying the attached xorg.conf file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf - this will disable acceleration, which should work around the bugs you're seeing.

It might be better to just disable Xv in the interim so your whole desktop doesn't run like molasses. You can do that in System - Preferences - Multimedia System Selector, go to the video tab and change the default output dropdown menu from autodetect to X Window System (No Xv).

Right. That turns off all hardware acceleration, which will obviously
make things slow. Ideally this bug will get fixed, and you'll be able
to have both acceleration and a non-corrupted display.

If it doesn't get fixed in time for Lucid, though, we can fall back to
disabling acceleration and you (and people with the same graphics card
as you) can at least boot to a non-corrupted desktop.

Daniele Cruciani (daniele-smartango) wrote :

Sorry, this do not make sense to me, corruption is random, sometime happen sometime no ...
Anyway disabling acceleration is not an option if someone want to use pc for
something else than have nice picture on monitor:
every time I scroll I have to wait 2 second for monitor to refresh ...
for some reason application (or gtk or other library) use heavy algorithm
for scrolling that make things more slowly than a 15 year old pc.
The only option for scrolling in firefox (continuous) is disabled.

I reenabled accel, I randomly get no corrupted screen, tough I set NoXVideo true
but it is not used.

There is an option to disable nouveau for some chipset and use nv?
thus option for who want to test nouveau on go 6100
is to use edges archives
