I've tried Lucid Beta 1 which provides xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu13. Same is still happening, though X.org now seems to detect the crash and starts itself with vga16fg to have control of the system.

Do I need to file a new bug for Lucid, or do you want to tag this bug accordingly?
