Yeah, I know... In my case, I had luck to have time to disable desktop effects before it locks my machine again...
I have an usable computer, but without the effects. As soon as I enable them, it's a matter of seconds to get the system frozen.

Well, I don't have the knowledge to say that these are the same or not, but I think they are somewhat related.
