With your patch I get the above mentioned crash:

[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung

after playing a video.

If no video is played, Xorg seems quite stable (this is the most stable driver/Xorg combination since introduction of KMS in kernels).
