Thanks for reporting this bug upstream. I have subscribed to it. I think they like to have the necessary information attached to the bug, at least Xorg.0.log. Could you upload (upstream) the Xorg.0.log you get with the 2.7.99 driver and no external monitor (to keep it simple)?
