KDE flickering on older 9x5 chipsets is a different bug to this one, that's a high level desktop bug where KDE is doing something wrong with Xrandr.
This bug is about flickering on very new chipsets (e.g. in my case it's a G45, or X4500HD depending on your choice of terminology).
