I can confirm Rebecca Palmer's find, but I don't run from the live CD (no cd-drive in my tiny X61s so someone else check it with a livecd copy) the 'End Game'-screen saver triggers the crash. In fact i just turned on my laptop and forgot to change screensaver back and when i came back it was in the restart loop and Xorg.0.log.old showed the bug-message.
Using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 32 bit Intel dual core L7300 fully updated.
Incidentally i also noticed the graphical artifacts as described by Rebecca and as entered by Sander.
