In the Debian bug system i found a similar problem, on a slower cpu, when the slowing down of the X helped. Now, when tried DRI no option, i mounted the / with the sync option. This visibly slowed down the workings of the system, and once there was no crash. But i can't replicate this.

And there was another solution.
