I have a laptop with 14' LCD 1400x1050 (286mm x 214mm). So screen is very smooth and my correct DPI is about 124x124. Now, with forced 96x96 DPI I have to use very small fonts (DejaVu Sans 7pt) to get reasonable output on this screen.

I think, there should be a freedom in choosing own DPI.
