Comment 20 for bug 315456

Thanks for the update Timothy. Looking at the work going on upstream it appears to be focusing on xserver 1.7, which unfortunately appears to be shipping very late and may not make it in time for Karmic, which would be a shame for the sake of this bug.

I would encourage those of you interested in this bug and with some C skill to look into backporting the patch to the 1.6.x tree so we will be able to include it for Karmic, or determine whether it is at all feasible to backport (some of the upstream comments indicate maybe not). I'm going to be on leave for the month of September so would not have time to work on doing this myself.
