Timo, there is a laptop hotkey, but it doesn't work to turn on the output. The only way I can turn it on is to restart X.
Mackenzie, I have seen this problem on both a hardy clean install, and on my laptop that I bought from Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed. That said, I will try your xorg.conf file and see if it works. Thanks.
