Bug Description

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

To reproduce, log into a Karmic GNOME desktop with compiz turned on.

Open a terminal window, and use alt-tab. A window switcher is activated.

Go into the keyboard preferences applet, in the Layouts tab choose the "Layout Options" button. In "Alt/Win key behaviour", change it from "Default" to "Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu".

Try alt-tab again. No window switcher is activated. Try alt+win+tab. A window switcher is activated. Try alt+F1. No panel menu is activated. Try alt+win+F1. The panel menu is activated. Same for switching desktops using the keyboard.

Now, restore that setting to "Default", and see that the keyboard shortcuts work as expected.

If you had the "Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu" setting set when you logged in, simply changing it is not enough to get alt-tab behaviour back to normal; you need to log out and log back in after returning the setting to "Default".

This appears to be a similar problem to the invalid bug 368661.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of xkeyboard-config is available in both Lucid and Maverick and we are wondering if this is still reproducible in any of those versions, May you please test and give us of feedback about it? Thanks in advance.
