Actually, there are very few GUI tools. The most used ones are in GNOME and KDE. Both are based on libxklavier, which I have full control over. So if there is a bug - I can fix it for both GNOME and KDE.

(Sorry, I did not read the political part of your comment, the commit is reasonably good for me, not going to revert it).
BTW, thanks for committing today - tomorrow we're going into the freeze stage, so your commit, if done later, would be at risk of reverting because of different reasons;)
