If you are using Xubuntu Jaunty 9.04 updated as of 2009-02-08, you are upgraded to Xfce 4.6RC. This is the reason you can not upgrade to xfce4-session. xfce4-session is already at 4.4.3.

apt-cache policy xfce4-session
xfce4-session:
  Installed: 4.4.3-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 4.5.99.1-0ubuntu1

Please run apt-cache policy xfce4-session to see if you are fully up to date.
