Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine

version of the kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.2
Release: 8.04
wine:
  Установлен: 1.1.18~winehq0~ubuntu~8.04-0ubuntu1
  Кандидат: 1.1.18~winehq0~ubuntu~8.04-0ubuntu1

The program "Bible" (http://www.ozon.ru/context/detail/id/3458072/) which has been installed from CD-ROM, sometimes plays back a "*. mov" files while being in service. During these moments, a problem occurs: there is no sound. For the operation, the program demands the installation of Quicktime for Windows v.2.01. I have detected that the same problem takes place at playback of same "*. mov" files in QuickTime Movie Player 2.0.1.41 application, QuickTime Movie Player 2.0.1.41 plays back a "*. mov" files without a sound, but with video. Is it possible to clarify the reason of this issue on the given broad gull in Konsole?

Videos in Quicktime 2 (32-bit) play for about 0.5 seconds and stop. Cycling through the video draws the images but it refuses to play the whole video.

Don't know what traces would help here.

Tested with latest gitwine too, same problem.
wine-1.1.20-36-gdc31d87
Quicktime 2.1.2.59

This is the entire console output:

fixme:ole:OleRegisterServerDoc (1,C:\windows\SAMPLE.MOV): stub

Can you get sound working in other Wine applications? There might be just a general sound issue here.

Also be aware of this possible bug in later Wines: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18257

Could you please confirm whether this is still an issue with a recent version of wine (preferably 1.2) from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa ?
If so, does it have an upstream bug report at http://bugs.winehq.org/ ?
Thanks

This problem has been solved in one of fresher versions wine. In particular, in version 1.2 this problem already isn't present. But as to the application "Bible" (http://www.ozon.ru/context/detail/id/3458072/) - that there was other problem instead of the former. In that place where earlier the sound was played now already isn't played. This application plays back the wav-files while being in service. There are moments when the program plays back two wav-files one after another. During these moments, a problem occurs: there is no sound at playback of second wav-file after the first file has been played. During this moment, when there is no a sound from second wav-file, the message takes off for consoles:
  ALSA lib pcm.c:7157:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occured

P.S. My english very badly, sorry.

I have a report at https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/355567 that this is fixed in 1.2 -- can anyone confirm?

So this same application can now play .mov files but does not work playing two .wav files one after another.

You should probably file a separate bug for this new problem but it does sound like one of the general wine problems with pulseaudio sound

This is not linked to the correct upstream bug. The symptoms are very different.
