i have the same problem. its the first time i use wine at all..

ubuntu 8.04 amd64 - wine 0.9.59

notepad and winecfg worked, but several warnings like
"preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000
err:dosmem:setup_dos_mem Cannot use first megabyte for DOS address space, please report".

i've tried the fix "sudo sysctl -w vm.mmap_min_addr=0" - no more warnings.

later i will try to get CS1.6 working..
