Giovanni. This workaround doesn't work if you need proxy authentication. I just changed proxy configuration and set authentication on "Network Proxy" clicking "Apply System Wide" and also changed inside Synaptics. Update-manager still doesn't work even after rebooting. I'm able to use Firefox and Synaptics fine.
