Comment 3 for bug 208112

It really looked like the "restricted drivers available" message happened at the exact same time as this error. Does that program access the dpkg database, perhaps to see if restricted drivers are already installed? If so, maybe the update manager should lock the dpkg database the entire time it is doing updates instead of unlocking and relocking it very quickly between installing updates, which it appears to be doing now.
